Walmart is one of the largest multinational retail corporation, originated in Arkansas, USA.
Currently, it operates over 10,000 stores in 24 countries. Renowned in the US supermarket industry, Walmart offers a wide selection of nutritious groceries and
vegetables at highly competitive prices.
Walmart has an excellent supply chain network throughout the USA, ensuring that each product it carries is consistently fresh and competitively priced. This efficiency attracts a large number of consumers to Walmart and facilitates swift restocking of their inventory.
Problems faced by Walmart
Given the short shelf life of food items in comparison to other groceries, it becomes crucial to handle them with great care. There are two
perspectives on this issue.

Walmart’s Perspective
When Walmart receives an infected or damaged food batch, Walmart needs to trace its origin back to the farm it came from. This “traceability
process” is essential to identify the source of the issue and take appropriate measures to rectify it promptly.

Consumer’s perspective
Similarly, for consumers, knowing the credibility of the expiry date on a food item is crucial. Transparency in the supply chain allows
consumers to have confidence in the accuracy of the expiry date provided. By knowing the journey of the product from its production to the shelf,
consumers can make informed decisions about the “freshness and safety of the food” they purchase from Walmart.

If you were in charge of Walmart’s supply chain, how would you guarantee the safety of food products for your customers?
